Kent M. Swig is an owner and Co-Chairman of Terra Holdings, LLC, a company that owns and operates several real estate service firms including Brown Harris Stevens, one of the oldest and largest residential and commercial real estate service providers in New York City with a staff of over 400 people operating in three states; Halstead Property Company, a residential brokerage and management company comprised of more that 250 brokers throughout Manhattan; Halstead/Feathered Nest, the largest residential rental firm in Manhattan serving both retail clients and individual landlords through its 135 brokers; and Vanderbilt Holdings, a financial services firm with disciplines in insurance and residential mortgage brokerage. Terra Holdings' companies manage over 300 residential buildings comprising over 20,000 units, and sell over $6 billion of apartments and townhouses annually.
Mr. Swig also serves as President of Swig Equities, LLC, an investment and development firm focusing on the acquisition and development of real estate in New York City and California. Since 2001, Swig Equities has purchased and/or is in the process of developing in excess of $3 billion of properties, which includes 110 William Street, a 900,000 square foot office building; 90 Broad Street, a 25 story, 400,000 square foot office building; 80 Broad Street, 400,000 square foot office building; 5 Hanover Square, a 320,000 square foot office building; 44 Wall Street, a 350,000 square foot office building; 48 Wall Street, 324,000 square foot office building; 770 Lexington Avenue, 155,000 square foot commercial office building; and 450 Sansome Street, a 140,000 square foot office building located in San Francisco. In addition, Swig Equities residential portfolio includes The Sheffield57, a 57 story mixed-use building comprising 845 residential units, 109,000 square feet of office and 8,600 square foot retail space; 25 Broad Street, a 565,000 square foot, 346 unit residential building located in Downtown Manhattan; 201 West 92nd Street, a 134 unit residential building; and 112 apartments within the 198 unit residential building located at 401 East 89th Street.
Mr. Swig is also a principal in and serves as Chairman of the Board of The Swig Company, a family-owned real estate and hotel company based in San Francisco and New York. The Swig Company's portfolio includes over 9 million square feet of prime commercial office space throughout the United States as well as the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California. Previously, Mr. Swig served as Executive Vice President of the Macklowe Organization and as President of Manhattan Pacific Management Company, Inc. For Manhattan Pacific, he oversaw the operation and leasing of a portfolio of more than 45 commercial and residential buildings in New York and Los Angeles with a market value in excess of $4 billion. Prior to joining The Macklowe Organization, Mr. Swig served as Vice President of Swig, Weiler & Dinner Development Company, San Francisco, where he worked extensively with the company's Fairmont Hotels Group and directly oversaw the development, acquisition, financing, leasing and management of the firm's portfolio of commercial office space.
Mr. Swig is also an active member of numerous professional, civic and charitable organizations, including serving as Board member of the Downtown Alliance; Board member of Wall Street Rising; Board member of the Association of Builders and Owners of New York; Vice President of the Realty Foundation of New York; Board member of Business Executives for National Security; Chairman of Real Estate and Construction industries of the State of Israel Bonds; and president of the American Friends of the Jaffa Institute. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese History from Brown University, Providence, R.I., Mr. Swig attended Hastings College of Law, San Francisco, where he was selected for the Law Review.
He resides in Manhattan with his wife and two children.
