Wade Hellew began his second career in Real Estate sales in 1986 because he is a people person who enjoys what he does to this very day and it shows. His customers and clients usually call on this veteran broker to list the property he’s sold them and in the interim to ask for his wisdom on real estate matters as well as other neighborhood related subjects. He came into the business with an extensive knowledge of brownstone properties and how they function since they have been in his family for many years.

Before there was a “Cobble Hill” he lived in this Brooklyn Heights suburb and has sold coops in the building where he lived in his early days as well as in the buildings where he learned his ABC’s and believe it or not in the very one in which he earned his bachelor’s degree. Wade’s customers report that working with him gives an immediate connection with the brownstone neighborhoods that he represents. He’s happy to discuss local schools as well places to dine and shop. One customer, who started working with Wade hoping to find the perfect two bedroom coop apartment, instead bought with family assistance, a duplex apartment and the three floor thru rentals that came with it. Several years later they asked Wade to sell their 4 family Carroll Gardens house which he was able to do for more than double the initial purchase price.

Wade and his wife, Elaine, ended their long search in 1979 for the perfect house deciding that it didn’t exist and, settled instead for the “worst house on the best block” They wanted a three family, but bought a four which was partially burned out, termite ridden and pretty much needed a lot of what we call TLC. They hired a pair of imaginative architects who created and filed renovation / restoration plans and C/O change and Wade became the contractor. Just about a year later after dealing with many sub contractors, the dep’t. of buildings, the landmarks preservation commission and lots of bureaucrats the Hellews moved into their perfect three family Greek Revival Townhouse house in north Cobble Hill. Twenty five plus years later, they still enjoy their home and the income from the two rentals that they have improved over the years.

Calling Wade to buy or sell, or perhaps to discuss your real estate needs will, you’ll find, time well spent. There’s lots of knowledge and experience and someone willing to help.
