Agents Raise Money for Beloved BHS Worker’s Mother Detained By ICE

New border and immigration policies are affecting families across the country, including right here at Brown Harris Stevens.

Two-and-a-half months ago, Luz Vasquez, the mother of Alejandro Monsalve, the Facilities Office Coordinator at the1934 Broadway Office, was placed in ICE custody.

In March, upon her arrival from Alejandro’s wedding in Colombia, Luz was detained at JFK airport. She was subsequently transferred to a detention facility in Houston, Texas, where she remained for over nine weeks in what can only be described as horrendous conditions.

Luz first came to America more than 31 years ago and obtained a Green Card. She has always been a hard-working, productive member of society and as a single mother, she instilled these values in her son.

Because of Alejandro’s grit and determination, along with an experienced immigration attorney and many letters from BHS colleagues and others advocating on Luz’s behalf, she was finally released and her Green Card reinstated.   Unfortunately, the attorney’s fees, which have grown to $44,850, have placed undue hardship on Luz and her family.

To help Luz, Alejandro, and their family move on from this painful ordeal, Brown Harris Stevens agents have organized a GoFundMe page “Luz’s Journey Back: Your Support Needed.”

As of this writing, the campaign has raised more than $15,000! Donations will be accepted through June 30, 2025.
