Finding your dream home can beget a lot of questions as you weigh out different homes' designs, amenities, and more. To provide a professional perspective to these questions, our new "This or That" series features top real estate agents from different markets and their preferences for home attributes. Enjoy part one of this insightful and entertaining series below, featuring: Jeff Stockwell & Ben Haymes from BHS' East Side Office.

Prewar or New Construction?

Jeff: Postwar 80-90; I’ll take the modern systems and larger windows of newer construction. The sweet spot for me can often be buildings from the late 80s and 1990s, which offer some of the best values in Manhattan, and are often found in prime locations not enjoyed by today’s newer developments.

Ben: Prewar; As much as I appreciate the modern design elements found in new construction, there is nothing like the detail found in pre-war buildings including: high ceilings, crown moldings, and intricate facades. A pre-war condo conversion is a perfect marriage of the two, as it blends all of the aforementioned pre-war details with modern finishes and appliances found in new construction.

Skyline Views or Waterfront Views?

Jeff: Water; While I would be happy with either, I think the best views in Manhattan are those of the Harbor, from the southern tip of Manhattan. The south-facing harbor views from 50 and 10 West Street cannot be surpassed.

Ben: Skyline; You are able to enjoy the view of the city lights after dark.

Private Elevator Entrance or Storage Unit?

Jeff: Eleator Entrance; It is much better to donate or sell items than to put them in storage for decades.

Ben: Storage Unit; Everyone needs more storage in NYC.

East Side, West Side, Or Downtown?

Jeff: West Side; Each of the three has its advantages, but as Zany Lupita’s dog dad, I want to be in close proximity to Central Park. I personally love living in Lincoln Square on the West Side.

Ben: Downtown; Each of these areas has its own redeeming qualities. I personally prefer Downtown, for the charming loft buildings, as well as the restaurants, nightlife, and shopping.
