Midwood

Midwood

In the south-central part of Brooklyn, blurry borders are Avenue I to the north, Kings Highway to the south, Flatbush Avenue to the east and McDonald Avenue to the west.

This community has a small-town vibe with its wide, tree-lined streets and manicured front lawns. Nearby Brooklyn College has a community membership program which allows neighbors to use its athletic and fine arts facilities, as well as the library. The East Midwood Jewish Center is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a lovely example of Renaissance Revival architecture, which has remained unmodified since its inception in 1924. The commercial district offers restaurants, pizzerias, delis and bakeries.

Fun facts: Woody Allen grew up in Midwood.

Housing Stock: Victorian, Queen Anne, Colonial-Revival, wood-framed, stucco and shingled two-story homes with big front porches, lush gardens and driveways, multi-family homes and multi-family walk-ups, rentals in apartment building and some of the aforementioned houses.
