Painting the Streets of NYC with Dylan Bauver

For Brown Harris Stevens Agent Dylan Bauver, blending the worlds of art and real estate comes naturally. In a recent sit-down interview, he discussed his approach to work, as well as the power art – and in particular mural art – has in transforming communities for the better. From Gowanus to Ground Zero, Bauver's work has brought color and vibrancy to areas that have needed it most, all while incorporating an element of levity and fun. 

How did you get started as a muralist? Why mural work specifically?

 I began painting legal murals following my first time exhibiting and curating a commercial space in 2016. The owner asked if I wanted to paint the front of the building and I just went for it. I painted it with the artists I had exhibiting with me. Once I saw how it impacted the community, I was hooked.

Describe how you’ve seen art influence and enhance communities, in your experience.

Art can change a whole community's energy. It makes people stop and enjoy the present moment. It’s easy to get caught up in the past and future, forgetting the NOW that you are currently in.

Talk to us about your latest Bushwick project. What inspired it?

My current work in Bushwick was inspired by Geometry and the number 999. I’ve been seeing it everywhere lately. This wall I painted for Wyckoff Beer Garden has 9 circles 9 colors and 9 shapes filled for each color. The black and white adds balance to this piece. The wall itself is 9ft by 9ft.

I used the same 999 technique for my customer's van. I didn’t think it needed any black and white shapes. Instead, I added it with shading. I think it came out sharp.

How does your work with art parlay into real estate?

For me, art and real estate go hand in hand. I plan on using my new real estate background to achieve larger mural projects and curated exhibitions in spaces that I would never have been able to attain without the license. It is the key I needed to open up the doors to EVERYTHING!
