Hamptons Doc Fest Announces 2024 Brown Harris Stevens Audience Award Winner

By Alexander Powers, BHS Content Team

Brown Harris Stevens is delighted to celebrate another year of supporting the arts as a sponsor of the 17th annual Hamptons Doc Fest. This year’s festival, held from December 5-11 in Sag Harbor, showcased 32 compelling documentary films at the iconic Sag Harbor Cinema and Bay Street Theater. Among the highlights was the announcement of the 2024 Brown Harris Stevens Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature, which went to the inspiring and joyous film Musica!

“There’s always a bit of intrigue in guessing what film will win the Audience Award. But when the tallies are in, we all say ‘of course that was the one.’ This year’s film program of 32 films was star-studded, so I congratulate directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman on their outstanding documentary and well-deserved award. And we thank Brown Harris Stevens for their continuing support of our mission and documentary film festival.” – Jacqui Lofaro, Founder and Executive Director, Hamptons Doc Fest

“Musica!” also received the festival’s 2024 Art & Inspiration Award, sponsored by the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation. The film, brimming with energy and passion, follows young Cuban musicians—a pianist, a double bass player, and a trumpeter—as they navigate their paths to success and artistic fulfillment, whether in Cuba or abroad.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the directors of ‘Musica!’ and everyone at Hamptons Doc Fest for another sensational season of documentary films. It’s an honor to continue our tradition of supporting the arts in our local Hamptons communities through the Brown Harris Stevens Audience Award.” – Robert Nelson, Executive Managing Director, BHS Hamptons.

The celebrated directors, who attended the festival and participated in a Q&A at the Sag Harbor Cinema, are no strangers to accolades. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman have previously earned two Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature for Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt and The Times of Harvey Milk, as well as a Best Music Film Grammy for Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.
