On April 30, 2008, the New York Landmarks Conservancy conferred the coveted Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award to 135 Joralemon Street. A one of a kind treasure, for nearly two centuries, this rare Federal-style clapboard house was first recorded in an 1830 survey. Today, it is a seamless blend of history and modernity, thanks to a passionately meticulous and complete restoration.

THE LIVING SPACES: Deceptively modest from the street view, it provides approximately 3850 square feet of distinctive living space. It is 25 feet wide and 36 feet deep, on a lot measuring 25 by 108, and is bracketed by front and rear porches, and charming front and luxuriously deep rear gardens.

Entering the front hall through the original Federal-style doorway, framed with Ionic columns, and delicately leaded top and sidelights, a graceful hall leads to elegant front and rear parlors. The parlors feature tall ceilings, two marble wood-burning fireplaces, and French doors opening onto covered front and rear porches, overlooking the gardens on each side.

On the first level, an interior staircase and separate under stoop entrance with cloak room lead to the keeping room. On this level, there is a large warming hearth, antique wide-board floors, beamed ceiling and a custom kitchen with windows and Dutch door to the garden, and a full bath.

Above the parlor floor, there is a large master bedroom with 2 walk in closets, and an en suite master bath and shower. A second large room, possibly a library, is also on this level. On the fourth level, another three bedrooms full bath, closet space, a loft and attic top the house.

Among the many original and preserved features are cut crystal chandeliers and sconces, elegant plasterwork, carved moldings, doors and hardware, five wood burning fireplaces, hardwood and wide plank floors, a hidden root cellar, and a completely restored staircase with windowed landings. Outdoors there is restored bluestone paving, granite stonework, and cast iron porch railings and fencing.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: Custom kitchen, with walnut cabinetry, Sub Zero refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher, six burner Wolf professional range and oven. Three zone air conditioning, state of the art heating, electrical, and plumbing systems. Fully networked, including security and entertainment system wiring.
